Wyatt’s newest book just out fall of 2012 had Wyatt starting kindergarten. Look who else will be starting kindergarten soon: Preston Sudbury! Preston is already a Wyatt fan. He’s the friend who told his Granny Val that his mom could not name his baby brother Wyatt because, “That’s a dog’s name!” You can read all about that in this post. Turns out his mom didn’t listen and Preston got a new baby brother named Wyatt anyway. Here’s a picture of Wyatt registering for kindergarten and receiving the newest Wyatt book, Wyatt the Wonder Dog Goes to Kindergarten. Preston planned to read the book on the way home in the car so I expect he will definitely be ready to start kindergarten next fall!!

Do you have a child who will be starting kindergarten next fall? Wyatt’s newest book addresses the concerns that many children have about making this important step. You can check out the book at this link: Wyatt the Wonder Dog Goes to Kindergarten.

Wyatt’s first book is a classic story of a problem friend who never takes Wyatt’s feelings into consideration. It is one of the main problems that I talk to children about as a school counselor. Just as Wyatt learns new strategies, children can learn new ways to talk to friends and reconcile their differences. The second edition of Wyatt the Wonder Dog Learns Good Manners is better than ever with a discussion guide, a lesson plan for guidance lessons, two worksheets and directions for making some puppy dog ears for children to wear. The story and worksheets create a great lesson for children of all ages! Head on over to the Products page to pick up a copy. I just got my new copies here:
Wyatt loves Christmas and he has been visiting several Christmas venues! On December 2, he visited Kennesaw United Methodist’s Holiday Bazaar and had a blast!! He visited with old friends and met some new ones too!! December 10th he will be visiting the Christian Author’s Guild Christmas party. In case your holiday schedule doesn’t match up with his, he is running a terrific holiday special and you can get all three books online for $35! This makes a great entertaining and educational gift for all the young puppies in your life! Jump on over to the products page and check it out!! Wyatt wishes everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

On October 25th, Wyatt and I visited Cherokee Christian School in Woodstock, Georgia. We had a blast! Our good friends, Kimberly Caldwell and Lacey, her therapy dog joined us for each of the classes. Lacey was a great listener although sometimes you might think that she was sleeping instead of listening. Her owner assured us that she often listens with her eyes closed. Each class listened to a Wyatt story and then made Wyatt puppy dog ears to wear.

Here is one of the classes wearing their ears:

| Notice how some of the children are panting like puppy dogs!

In kindergarten, we read Wyatt the Wonder Dog Goes to Kindergarten and in first, second and third grade we read Wyatt the Wonder Dog Learns About Good Manners.
 |
| Who knew there were so many different ways to wear puppy dog ears! |
Older classes after listening to a Wyatt story, then identified the parts of the story and learned how to create a story themselves.

It was definitely a Wonderful Wyatt kind of a day. Wyatt will again be visiting Cherokee Christian School on November 10 for their Evening in London. We will have a booth with Wyatt books to sell and special treats for Wyatt fans. Hope to see you there! Here’s the link to this event if you need more information! Thanks to Cherokee Christian School for inviting us!

It’s been a busy week for Wyatt. On Friday, September 14th, we visited Sheltering Arms daycare and read Wyatt the Wonder Dog Learns About Good Manners to an energetic class of three year olds. After the story we all made Wyatt puppy dog ear headbands to wear. What a fun afternoon that was!
This week we’ve been preparing for Wyatt’s big book launch of his newest book: Wyatt the Wonder Dog Goes to Kindergarten. It’s one of his biggest adventures yet and we’re having a big book launch party at my house just to celebrate! It’s going to be a birthday party too with cake and ice cream! There will also be special Wyatt themed cookies for all the guests. I hope to see you there.
If you can’t make the party there will still be special deals available for all our online friends. For anyone purchasing a Wyatt book on September 30th right here on the Wyatt website, I will include an audio recording of the book. Now you will be able to listen to the story while you look at the pictures! Wyatt is super excited about this new addition to each of his books. See you on the 30th!

Just in time for the start of school, the newest Wyatt book is now available!. Wyatt, like many children, doesn’t like new things and now that he is about to start kindergarten, he is sure that he won’t like it! After all, he has a lot of experience with not liking change and why would this be any different? Join Wyatt in his newest “wonder-ful” adventure as he discovers that when he tries new things, he almost always likes it so much, he he can’t wait to do it again.

Can you find Wyatt The Wonder Dog in this picture? You are right, he is peeking over the sand castle that he built! Wyatt does love spending time at the beach during the summer and in the newest book which is coming out soon, Wyatt not only goes to the beach but he starts Kindergarten! Do you know anyone who is starting kindergarten soon? It is a big step and Wyatt as usual is wondering about a lot of things. We are planning lots of fun activities!
Is there a child in your life who will be starting kindergarten soon? What questions do they have? I wonder if Wyatt has the same questions…please post them here. I’d love to know.
I love books that combine a good story with a good lesson. It’s even better if the lesson can be summed up in one memorable sentence. The book Hunter’s Best Friend at School does all of the above and more. Written by Laura Malone Elliott and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger, it is the tale of two racoons who are best friends and want to do everything together and just alike. This doesn’t normally create problems, but when Stripe shows up at school in a mischief-making mood, Humter is faced with the choice of whether or not to follow along. He soon discovers that making the wrong choice not only means they are both in trouble, but also that he is not even happy with the results himself. When his mother discovers his dilemma, she teaches him a great life lesson when she says, “Sometimes being a best friend means you have to help your friend be his best self.” Children and adults alike could benefit from her wisdom…
It’s the time of year for setting goals and planning for the future. If you like Wyatt, are thinking about how to improve your performance at school, here’s a great book to inspire even the most distracted student to organize and plan their school day with great success. Annie’s Plan: Taking Charge of Schoolwork and Homework is written by Jeanne Kraus, a a teacher and an educational specialist with expertise in attention disorders. Most of the book is directed to students to give them concrete and detailed but simple techniques for maintaining control of their day. The last part of the book is written to parents and educators to help them create an environment and plan for success. By following a plan, both Annie and Wyatt are able to not only meet the expectations of parents and teachers, they are able to enjoy the fruits of their efforts and have a great day!
